Hekima Waldorf School began in 1997 as a kindergarten with six children. Thanks to the first four trustees: Mr. Rashid Mbuguni, Mr. Richard Nyaulawa [ the late ], Mrs. Gertrude Nyaulawa and Mrs. Adeline Mlay [the late, who was Mr. Mbuguni’s wife] for their ability to take initiative and responsibility to establish the first  Waldorf school in Tanzania. Thanks to the first teachers: Fundi Mndende from South Africa who started the first kindergarten class and Irmgard Wutte from Germany with her Husband who started teaching the first class one in 1999.

Over the years the school has grown up and cherishes more enrolment due to more understanding of Waldorf pedagogy among parents around the school vicinity. So far, there are eleven trained Waldorf teachers, among them, eight are primary trained teachers and three kindergarten teachers. Three more teachers have recently been enrolled to cover the gape which apparently is visible in classes with more pupils.

In order to meet some requirements as per government demand there are ongoing construction projects in the school compound. Currently, we have a pavilion being constructed. This is a multipurpose spacious construction where various activities performed by children at different times will be taking place. Small and big functions of the school will be held on the same space. An extension at our kindergarten entrance has just been done. We are looking to having a swimming pool in the school compound.
